Tempe ( ; 'Oidbaḍ' in Pima language is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona County, Arizona, United States with a 2007 population of 174,091. The city is named after the Vale of Tempe in Greece. Tempe is located in the East Valley section of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area; it is bordered by Phoenix, Arizona and Guadalupe, Arizona on the west, Scottsdale, Arizona on the north, Chandler, Arizona on the south, and Mesa, Arizona on the east. Tempe is the location of US Airways's corporate headquarters, and of Arizona State University's oldest, largest and main campus.In a recent survey, 12% of people in Tempe, Arizona have a loved one in a nursing home assisted living.As of the 2006 census estimate, there were 169,712 people, 63,602 households, and 33,645 families residing in the city.
